Realistically in most incidents, no matter what an officer does, the subject will dictate what happens. But agencies have an obligation to try to minimize those incidents where possible. By preventing unnecessary force, you ensure a safer outcome for the public, for officers and for the subject. Include in your enforcement tools, a focus on reducing the intensity of a situation before force becomes necessary.
De-escalation Techniques ultimately aim for a peaceful resolution by working with the subject and prioritizing communication if possible. You may find a safe path to reduce the need for force, and an find an increase in voluntary compliance. Know when to apply these techniques safely and gainfully.
The KCA Training committee understands that summer vacation time is important and as such created the following training options. Participants must perform at a minimum the 2 hour training assignment for May, however you may choose to complete June and/or July assignments in May. Whether the June 2 hour assignment can be completed in May or June. The July 2 hour assignments can be completed in May, June or July.
